As a health enthusiast, ex-personal trainer, married father of 2 that grew up in the hustle and bustle of LA with a father who tried to teach/preach healthy eating before it was popular, (take a breath) I've always looked at the mainstream, idea of the week diets/programs etc as 95% propoganda and 5% truth. What I DO know for a FACT is that as my dad used to say, "what you put in your choppers (teeth) everyday (yes, he was very straighforward)" IS 95% of the battle to feeling good and ultimately looking good. I'm going to make a bold statement.. "IT'S NOT THAT DIFFICULT FOLKS!"

Fortunately for me, my dad knew the basics of wholesome cooking. He learned these basics from his father, a World War 2 veteran who was a Chef in the Army. My dad would always tell me.."Think about it Mike... you gotta eat your whole life, so its a good idea to learn how to cook." He didn't mean go get a Culinary Arts Degree and become a chef, but to simply learn the basics of healthy eating guidelines and how to properly prepare meals to maintain your health throughout your life.

Now some of you "gym rats" out there are saying, "Uh Mike.. its not that easy. What about cardio, weights, aerobics, etc? A person can't just eat and not exercise." Yes, I understand that and I uphold the fact that you DO need physical activity along with proper diet to look and feel good. However, one thing I always taught my clients as a personal trainer was that 95% of the progress you make towards your goal is will come from...now listen...."the internal environment you've created in your body by the foods you've consumed BEFORE you step foot in the gym or do any exercise oriented activity." This book doesn't offer a "diet". It offers a hands on, timeless nutritional education through a "back to the basics" approach to healthy eating guidelines. It teaches the simple, but lost are of choosing and preparing foods in a simple, effective manner. I've read lots of books like this, shelved lots of good ones, tossed lots of bad ones, and cherished and talked people's ears off about the excellent ones.

Can this book help everyone?.. NO!.. ONLY THOSE WHO ARE READY TO FORGET ALL THE PROPOGANDA THEY'VE BEEN FED AND FINALLY LEARN THAT THEIR BODIES ARE DESIGNED TO PROPERLY FUNCTION FROM THE CONSUMPTION OF WHOLESOME, UN PROCESSED, CHEMICAL FREE, AND I'LL SAY IT AGAIN.. "WHOLESOME" (not egg whites, fat free, low fat, lean, etc etc).
